Child Protection Team
The Center offers forensic medical exams and follow-up care on a 24/7 basis for Lake and Sumter Counties in our child friendly exam area.
In the past, the University of Florida Child Protection Team, based in Gainesville, provided supervision for the medical exams given at our CAC. Starting April 1, 2010, we began to operate independently as the Lake Sumter Child Protection Team.
As we approach our first anniversary of having the contract (April 1, 2011), we have already experienced remarkable growth. Exams are preformed by our on-staff ARNPs, Karyn Walker and Edith D'Aquilla-Lloyd, who have completed specialized training in this area. Our Medical Director, Dr. Oludapo Soremi, is a Board Certified Pediatrician and a Hospitalist with the Central Florida Health Alliance. Our CPT staff also includes Andria Estrella-Roa, Team Coordinator; Donna Richey, Cynthia Wanberg, and Cathy Carter, Case Coordinators; Holly Sharlow, Intake Specialist; and Roberta Mingolla, Data Entry.
Our CPT team has provided training sessions for Law Enforcement and the Department of Children and Families and medical training to the Emergency Room staff at LRMC. We are also scheduled to provide future training at The Villages Hospital, Waterman Hospital and South Lake Hospital, as well as a February training session to First Responders (Law Enforcement and DCF) on how to initially respond to a child abuse case.
